    Project overview

The decarbonisation of long-haul road freight is essential to achieving Europe’s climate goals. Despite rapid advances in battery-electric truck technology, large-scale deployment remains constrained by operational complexity, charging requirements, fleet planning challenges and uncertainty around business viability.

BELOGIC addresses these barriers by combining innovative logistics models with advanced digital tools specifically designed for battery-electric freight transport. The project brings together logistics operators, truck manufacturers, technology providers, industry associations and research organisations to redesign long-haul logistics operations around battery-electric vehicles. Through simulations, integrated planning tools and large-scale demonstrations, BELOGIC aims to prove that battery-electric trucks can perform long-haul transport missions reliably and cost-effectively while supporting Europe's transition to zero-emission freight transport.

    Objectives

    BELOGIC aims to:

    01

Develop and validate innovative logistics models tailored to battery-electric long-haul freight operations.

    02

Enhance and integrate digital tools supporting transport management, fleet management and smart charging.

    03

Demonstrate battery-electric logistics solutions in real operating conditions across Europe.

    04

Identify operational requirements, barriers and deployment strategies for large-scale electrification.

    05

Accelerate the adoption of battery-electric trucks while reducing freight transport emissions and improving operational efficiency.

    Project duration: May 2026 - April 2029
