  • The DELPHI project focuses on integrating passenger and freight transport through a novel governance model (cross modal and multilevel) and a Multimodal Passenger and Freight Transport Network of Platforms, facilitating data sharing and multimodal organization between stakeholders. An AI/ML optimization framework will be developed to increase TNTM efficiency and producing a resilient, reliable network of data exchange.
    These solutions will be tested through four use-cases and a simulation-based analysis, focusing on compatibility and relevance with EU standards, laying emphasis on market-adoption and transferability of innovations.

    DELPHI: innovation through a Federated Network of Freight and Passenger Platforms

    Last mile delivery and urban logistics face important challenges: high cost, negative impact on the environment (CO2 emissions, air quality, noise, public space sharing, congestion, etc.), difficulties to find a governance model with multiple stakeholders with have divergent priorities and the questions around data (availability, collection, safety, format, interoperability, etc.).
    The innovation brought by the DELPHI project involves answers to these challenges, through the construction of a strong multilevel and cross-modal governance, involving and including stakeholders, travel modes (including airfreight) and data sharing. The construction of a Federated Network of Freight and Passenger Platforms to guarantee accessibility and interoperability of data analysis and information, facilitating communication flow and decision-making process between all stakeholders.
    On data, the project also focuses on facilitating multi-sourcing freight and passengers’ data collection, integration and optimization through AI/ML – to consolidate simulations analysis and better orchestrate last mile delivery. As data is complicated and costly to collect and/or produce, UAV-powered monitoring is used in the project DELPHI to gather visual information (traffic monitoring for example) or environmental data (CO2 emission, air quality, etc.).
    This project also explores innovative fields on urban logistics: experiment on transport sharing between passengers and freight, repurposing passenger transport vehicles when underused (ex. Taxis), using UAVs as data collectors, using AI/ML monitoring to optimize traffic and travel management, integrating many different stakeholders in the process, including citizens through crowd-shipping. The double approach on real life demonstrations in four European location, paired with simulation analysis with bigger scales scenarios allows perfecting the tailor-made but interoperable system. The main goal being transformability of the solutions and their integration in current and fore coming EU standards.

    DELPHI’s federated ecosystem will be extensively evaluated in real life settings through four pilot demonstrations across the participating transportation networks:

    1. Multimodal transport for a Sustainable LMD supported by blockchain for sharing economy in the e-commerce Channel (Spain)
    2. Integrated freight and passengers’ models and data sharing framework in the Attica region (Greece)
    3. Integrated freight and passengers’ models and data sharing framework at the island of Mykonos (Greece)
    4. Integrated passengers’ models and data sharing governance framework in the Cluj-Napoca Metropolitan Area (Romania)

    DELPHI’s demos aim to facilitate the effective preparation and seamless integration of systems, and they will involve continuous monitoring of progress, to ensure smooth functioning and improved interconnectivity.
